What’s Inside this Book

Welcome to my book about how to build your life around what engages and inspires you throughout the chapters of your WorkLife Story. Here is a preview of what’s inside, along with the main ideas and the meaning behind these.

WorkLife is our life at work, where we spend one third of our lives. It is also the impact our work has on our life outside of work, and the impact our life outside of work has on our work. All areas of our life in and out of work are so intrinsically linked, they cannot be separated, nor do I believe should they. I believe WorkLife needs to be considered holistically.

Being engaged in your WorkLife means to care about what you do and to feel your efforts could make a difference. It is considered as an internal state of mind – physically, mentally and emotionally – that binds together commitment and satisfaction.

Being inspired in your WorkLife gives you a sense of purpose, it breathes life into your day, it’s the thing that gets you up in the morning, excited to take on a new day. You light up with a special joie de vivre (joy of living).

In this book I tell four stories:

1. What Completely Engages and Inspires You in Your WorkLife and How Can You Use This to Create Your Go-Be-Do Joie De Vivre WorkLife Living Plan: Carmel’s story about how beginning from a place of doing a little of what she loved every day, then building on that, she created a WorkLife that engaged and inspired her.

2. The Importance of Taking a Stand for Something You Believe In and How This Helps to Develop Your WorkLife Brand True to Your Identity, Values and Beliefs and in Turn a WorkLife that Engages and Inspires You: Carmel’s story about how she built her WorkLife brand true to what she believed in.

3.How She Built a WorkLife that Engaged and Inspired Her Beginning from a Stack of Pancakes:Carol’s story about how she brought what she loved doing in and out of the workplace to create a WorkLife that engaged and inspired her.

4. Acts of Kindness and Generosity, Transformations, Pivots and the Domino Effect: Sam Polk’s story about how he walked away from a WorkLife that had almost destroyed him, and built a Work- Life that completely engaged and inspired him.

I share the exercises that helped to work through these challenging situations to resolve the dilemmas. I present these exercises as the following assignments for you to work through:
